Yemeni authorities announced on Monday evening that the Houthi group targeted the central city of Marib with four ballistic missiles. This came in a brief statement issued by the local government authority in Marib governorate, which was reviewed by Anadolu Agency.
The statement pointed out that "the terrorist Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime, targeted the densely populated city of Marib, which hosts displaced persons, with four ballistic missiles." The statement did not address details regarding the results of the shelling.
For his part, previous sources mentioned that the Houthis targeted Marib with ballistic missiles on close occasions, as the city was targeted with eight missiles on Sunday evening, and with seven other projectiles and nine missiles on October 15. Marib gains humanitarian significance for hosting more than 2.2 million displaced persons, and it is one of the most prominent strongholds of the Yemeni government and a center for oil and gas production.
These developments fall within a military escalation that began in July 2026, and is considered the widest since the relative calm Yemen witnessed following a truce that began in April 2022. Since October 5, the "Yemen's Dawn" military operation, which aims to restore state institutions, has continued.
Yemen has been witnessing a war since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several governorates in September 2014, before an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in March 2015, in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
