Idlib holds first exam for tourism workplaces after 14-year hiatus
Idlib's tourism directorate organizes the first theoretical exam for tourism workplaces after a 14-year pause.

The Tourism Directorate in Idlib province held, on Thursday, the first theoretical exam for tourism workplaces after a 14-year hiatus, at the Information Engineering College building in Idlib city. The exam was participated in by 106 students, distributed as 68 males and 38 females, who completed three-month qualification courses in specialties including tourism office management, Amadeus flight ticket booking, and Hajj and Umrah.

For his part, Ayham Mahna, Director of Continuous Training and Qualification at the General Authority for Tourism and Hotel Training under the Ministry of Tourism, clarified that these courses are part of a package of programs evaluated by the Ministry of Tourism to qualify personnel wishing to enter the tourism labor market. He pointed out that tourism training was absent from Idlib province over the past 14 years, and that these exams come amid increasing requests for licensing tourism and travel agencies in the province, to contribute to returning Idlib to the Syrian tourism map.

Idlib Tourism Director Nael Al-Qaddour added that the goal of the courses is to supply tourism workplaces with qualified and trained personnel, as obtaining these courses is a basic condition for licensing, in addition to creating new job opportunities for youth in the province. For his part, Youssef Abdul Aziz Zain, one of the applicants for the Hajj and Umrah exam, stated that the three-month course, conducted via electronic lectures, was valuable and useful, and will enable him to work as a religious guide for Hajj and Umrah.

For her part, Raghad Bobakki, one of the applicants for the flight ticket booking course, noted that she joined the course to develop her previous knowledge and benefit from it to get employed in the first tourism office opened in the city, where she learned the basics of booking and selling tickets and offering discounts to customers. This step comes as part of the Ministry of Tourism's plan to revive the tourism sector in Idlib after years of cessation during the era of the former regime, and to supply the labor market with qualified personnel capable of keeping pace with the requirements of the coming stage.
