The General Establishment for Drinking Water and Sanitation in the Damascus countryside, in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross, began on Wednesday the implementation of the second phase of the project to improve the drinking water situation in the city of Ad-Dumayr.
Engineering Works Details
This phase includes digging and laying a water line with a diameter of 200 millimeters and a length of 600 meters, aimed at connecting the networks of the Eastern and Western neighborhoods and improving water distribution in the targeted area.
Improving Water Supply
Ali Sharaf al-Din, head of the Ad-Dumayr water unit, explained that the new line extends from Sheikh Akashi soil to Al-Rahiba roundabout, noting that connecting the two networks improves water access for subscribers in Sheikh Akashi neighborhood, whose residents suffer from weak water supply.
He added that the project contributes to extending the drinking water network to buildings located on Al-Rahiba road, providing an opportunity for their residents to subscribe to the service.
Completion of the First Phase
Sharaf al-Din pointed out that the duration of the current phase is about a month, which completes the first phase that included preparing the third well in Abu Qous Mountain and implementing a pumping line with a length of 500 meters, relying on solar, electric, and diesel energy to operate it and ensure continuous water pumping.
The project comes within the framework of efforts aimed at developing the infrastructure of the drinking water sector in the city of Ad-Dumayr, improving network efficiency and enhancing its capacity to meet population needs, by improving feed sources and expanding transmission lines and connecting neighborhoods.
