The American first football team Inter Miami, led by Argentine Lionel Messi, drew 2-2 with Cincinnati in the 32nd stage of Major League Soccer (MLS), in a match that witnessed great fluctuations between the two teams.
The draw was a setback for Miami in its bid to occupy second place in the Eastern Conference and secure qualification for next year's CONCACAF Champions Cup, as it dropped to third place behind New England Revolution, which won against New York Red Bulls 3-2.
Goals and surprises
Miami took the lead through Uruguayan Luis Suarez, but conceded two goals within 6 minutes via Frenchman Kenji Mbuma Dem and Slovak Samuel Gyde, before equalizing with a late goal in the 90th minute by Brazilian substitute Ricelme Felipe.
Cincinnati rallied in the 80th minute thanks to Frenchman Mbuma Dem, who scored with a curling shot at the far post, then silenced the crowd as Gyde scored the go-ahead goal just 6 minutes later.
Standings
Inter Miami faces its rival New England on Sunday, trailing by two points (58 vs 56), and needs either a win or a draw to keep hopes for second place alive.
Nashville tops the Eastern Conference standings by a large margin (71 points) and secured the Supporters' Shield, awarded to the first-place team, last week for the first time in its history.
