Interactive 'Windows' Show in Aleppo Discusses Community Issues
An interactive theatrical performance at Aleppo's National Library addresses discrimination and hate speech with audience participation.

The National Library in Aleppo hosted an interactive theatrical performance titled "Windows" on Friday, presented by the "Citizen Artists" Foundation to raise and discuss current community issues, with broad audience participation contributing to scene analysis and proposing solutions to the presented situations.

Conveying Ideas Directly

The performance focused on three dramatic scenes addressing discrimination and educational disparities between public and private schools, alongside confronting hate speech and enhancing the role of women in society. The audience was given the opportunity for direct interaction with characters, exchanging roles, and participating in crafting alternative endings, in line with the philosophy of interactive theater that engages the spectator in the performance's progression.

Strengthening Social Cohesion

Diana Khayata, Community Cohesion Advisor at the Syria program of the NGO "VNG International," funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told SANA that the performance provided an important space to highlight young talents and convey purposeful community messages through direct dialogue and exchanging views with the audience, emphasizing the importance of such platforms in strengthening social cohesion.

Audience Participation in Decision-Making

For her part, participant Asma Al-Mahmoud explained in a similar statement that the performance touched on fundamental issues from daily life and presented them in a direct, interactive, and impactful manner, noting that the audience's integration with the actors helped solidify the work's humanistic messages and enhance the culture of dialogue. Participant Rinkin Komu also highlighted that the work focused on sensitive community issues and made the audience partners in proposing solutions and making decisions within the performance, affirming that discussing these issues collectively opens broader horizons for positive thinking about ways to address them.
