Interior Minister Anas al-Khattab announced that the Ministry's forces have continued for the third consecutive day to support victims of floods in the Eastern Region, noting that they are working to establish barriers, organize traffic flow, assist in rescuing victims, and take necessary measures to mitigate potential risks and damages caused by the floods.
For his part, al-Khattab said on the (X) platform on Friday: "We extend our sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the flood victims in all affected governorates, praying to Almighty God to have mercy on the victims and to grant their loved ones patience and solace." The minister documented the exceptional efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Interior's forces and emergency teams, which continue to work day and night to rescue those trapped, search for the missing, protect property, and secure public facilities.
In the same context, al-Khattab called on residents to strictly comply with safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities, and to immediately stay away from flood channels and water accumulation areas, to preserve lives and ensure everyone's safety until weather conditions stabilize. Earlier on Friday, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh announced the death of 7 citizens who drowned, including 5 children, as well as a man who died in a traffic accident caused by the floods.
Al-Saleh added that Civil Defense teams managed to rescue 60 civilians after their vehicles were trapped by floods, while 4 people remain missing and intensive search operations are underway to find them. Most Syrian regions have witnessed heavy rains since Tuesday afternoon, particularly in the northern and eastern areas, leading to the formation of floods and inundations and cutting off many roads.
