The Ministry of Interior confirmed that it is closely following the reactions and questions raised by residents of Rankous town in the Damascus countryside regarding the details of the security operation carried out last Thursday, which targeted a cell linked to the Daesh terrorist organization.
The Ministry stressed in a statement on Friday its commitment to transparency and the public's right to know the truth away from rumors, clarifying that the primary objective of the security operation was limited to executing arrest warrants for the suspects to interrogate them, based on accurate intelligence data.
Details of the Clashes
The Ministry added that the security force was surprised upon arrival at the site by the cell members opening heavy and direct fire, which led to the martyrdom of two individuals and injured five Internal Security Forces members, necessitating engagement with fire sources according to standard rules of engagement.
Operation Results
Internal Security Forces, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate, carried out a security operation on Thursday targeting a cell affiliated with the Daesh terrorist organization in Rankous town. Its members initiated firing on security forces, leading to clashes that resulted in the martyrdom of two members and injuries to five others from the Internal Security Forces.
The Internal Security Forces indicated that the operation ended with neutralizing five cell members, arresting six others, and seizing weapons and explosive belts.
Judicial Commitment
The Ministry pointed out that preliminary investigations with the detainees are still ongoing under the supervision of competent judicial authorities, reaffirming its commitment to announcing investigation results and presenting evidence to the public as soon as legal procedures are completed.
The Ministry reiterated that the security and safety of Rankous town residents are a top priority, and that protecting citizens and maintaining national stability form the core of its responsibilities, calling on everyone to exercise precision, await official investigation results, and avoid being drawn into misleading narratives attempting to preempt justice and obscure the facts.
