The International Conference on 'Ummah Unity: From Constants to a Unity Charter' began today, Wednesday, in the Turkish city of Istanbul, with the participation of approximately 250 scholars, thinkers, and Islamic preachers from various countries around the world, under the patronage of the Global Federation of Islamic Scholars.
The opening session was attended by the Secretary-General of the Global Federation of Islamic Scholars, Dr. Ali Mohyeddin Al-Qaradaghi, along with a number of scholars and researchers, while the Syrian delegation, led by Minister of Endowments Dr. Muhammad Abu Al-Khair Shukri, was also present.
Unified Islamic Discourse
The Minister of Endowments emphasized the importance of unifying words and efforts among Muslims in a statement to SANA, noting that Syria's experience in preparing a charter for the unity of Islamic discourse, in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Fatwa, and its signing by more than 1,800 Syrian scholars, represents a practical model for enhancing rapprochement and unifying Islamic discourse.
Shukri clarified that the conference discusses ways to bring together scholars from different Islamic schools and sects around shared constants based on the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah, thereby strengthening the unity of the Ummah and its ability to face current challenges.
Executive Plans
For his part, Director of the Quran Generation Waqf, Muhammad Muaz Abu Salih, stressed in a similar statement that the challenges and differences facing the Islamic Ummah require enhancing dialogue and rapprochement and prioritizing commonalities, emphasizing the necessity of developing executive plans and operational follow-up to ensure the achievement of the conference's objectives and consolidate the values of unity and cohesion.
The conference will last for three days and includes scientific sessions and workshops to discuss the 'Ummah Unity Charter' project, with its work concluding with the announcement of the final statement after Friday prayers.
