Iraqi Prime Minister: We are determined to strengthen the partnership with Damascus
Syria is a neighboring country and a strategic partner

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi announced his intention to pay an official visit to Syria in the coming period, stressing Baghdad's serious desire to move forward towards enhancing the prospects of joint cooperation and developing bilateral relations.

In a television interview on Thursday, Al-Zaidi explained that Syria represents a neighboring country and a strategic partner, stressing the great importance of establishing solid economic cooperation that contributes to achieving stability and mutual development for both sides in light of the current challenges in the region.

Deterring any act of sabotage targeting neighboring countries

With regard to the recent escalation of violence and the surrounding security risks, the Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed that he has issued strict official orders to the competent agencies with the aim of deterring and preventing any military or sabotage action targeting neighboring countries from within Iraqi territory.

Regarding regional concerns, Al-Zaidi asserted that there are no on-the-ground or intelligence indications that the recent attacks on the territory of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were launched from Iraq, pointing out that his government has begun conducting extensive and accurate investigations to uncover the circumstances of these incidents and ensure that they do not recur.

Oil and Internal Coils

On the economic and domestic levels, al-Zaidi resolved the controversy over the country's oil policy, stressing that Baghdad will not leave the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and adhere to its membership, but at the same time seeks to negotiate in order to obtain a fair production share commensurate with its capabilities and financing needs.

On the domestic issue, the Prime Minister expressed optimism about the central government's ability to end all outstanding and chronic files with the Kurdistan Region, especially those related to financial and oil files and wealth management in accordance with legal frameworks.

The confrontation explodes

These cautious Iraqi diplomatic and security moves come at a time when the Middle East is living in the wake of an unprecedented military escalation between Washington and Tehran, where the United States has launched large-scale air strikes targeting more than 80 targets in Iran, in response to attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

This was followed    by Tehran's announcement of the bombing of US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, in conjunction with Washington's decision to cancel the temporary lifting of sanctions on Iran's oil sector, and the two sides exchanged accusations of violating the memorandum of understanding signed on  June 17 to Madi to end the regional war that erupted on February 28  with US-Israeli strikes on Iranian depth, amid anticipation of the statements of US President Donald Trump, who predicted a quick end to the current round of escalation while keeping the door Conversations are open.
