Israel has prevented the construction of a base in the Gaza Strip, which the Peace Council, established under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, intended to build to host 150 international military personnel, according to the British newspaper The Guardian.
The newspaper reported on Thursday that an American company signed a contract last August to build the base, but Israel continues to prevent contractors and trucks from entering the Gaza Strip despite two months having passed. It noted that Tel Aviv's refusal has made it impossible to launch other activities for the Council, thereby hindering its future plans.
Obstruction of the International Force
The newspaper pointed out that Israel's ban on building the base obstructs the entry of an international force into Gaza and prevents the establishment of essential facilities needed to sustain the lives of the population in the area. The base was planned to be built on land previously used by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, whose activities had sparked widespread controversy.
Recovery Plan and Toll
Last month, the Peace Council announced a six-month recovery plan for Gaza valued at $2.45 billion to fund 66 projects, including temporary housing and debris removal. Since the start of the genocide in October 2023, Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
