Rejection of Travel and Escorts
The mother of Mohammed Al-Jabali, who suffers from cancer, called for permission for him to receive treatment outside the Gaza Strip, noting that her son is suffering from acute leukemia and bone marrow cancer. She explained that the child was issued a referral for treatment outside the Strip, but his travel is stalled due to the Israeli authorities' refusal to allow his escorts to depart with him. The mother confirmed that she submitted the names of several escorts, including the father, brother, daughter, uncle, and aunt, but all were rejected, followed by the authorities' rejection of the child's own travel.
Deterioration of Health Condition
For her part, Dr. Maysun Hijazi noted that Mohammed was diagnosed with a type of acute leukemia six months ago, which affects his immunity. She added that the child's condition has deteriorated significantly, as he needed to be admitted to intensive care and placed on respiratory devices two weeks ago due to a severe infection. The doctor stressed that the condition is unstable and requires completing treatment outside Gaza, due to the lack of necessary capabilities within the Strip.
Crossing Closure and Accumulation of Cases
The Gaza Ministry of Health added that Israel continues to close the Rafah land crossing with Egypt for the second week, preventing the evacuation of patients and the wounded. It pointed out that this closure has led to a dangerous accumulation of critical cases, noting that patients complain of strict procedures involving detailed searches, insults, and hours of interrogation. Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on October 10, 2025, more than 1,344 patients and wounded have died while waiting for treatment.
General Context of the Crisis
The ministry pointed out that the suffering of patients comes amid widespread damage to the health sector due to the ongoing war since October 2023. It clarified that Israel prevents the entry of agreed-upon quantities of medicines and medical supplies, where approximately 2.4 million Palestinians live in catastrophic conditions. It noted that the war has left more than 74,000 dead and over 175,000 wounded, with destruction affecting 90 percent of infrastructure.
