Burning the camp and displacing families

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing in the Gaza Strip said on Monday that the Israeli army burned a displacement camp at the Shuja'iyya intersection east of Gaza City on Sunday evening, displacing 800 Palestinians. The ministry clarified that the fire consumed the tents of displaced persons and their meager belongings, resulting in damage and displacement of more than 200 displaced families comprising over 800 Palestinians, mostly women, children, the elderly, and the sick.

Description of the crime and violation of law

The ministry added in a statement that the Israeli army committed a new brutal crime the previous night, as "quadcopter" drones at 20:00 burned the entire camp. It considered this a clear continuation of the genocide and ethnic cleansing war, and deemed it a complete war crime and a crime against humanity, representing a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

International appeals and worsening situation

It pointed out that the burning of tents caused a state of severe panic, fear, and terror among the families who had felt safe, finding themselves once again displaced in the open air without shelter or an alternative to protect them from the harsh conditions. The ministry called on the international community, the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and human rights organizations to break their silence and intervene urgently to stop the genocide and the continuous series of burning and destruction.

Context of escalation and siege

The ministry appealed to the relief, international, and UN institutions operating in Gaza to take urgent action to aid the families displaced from the Shuja'iyya intersection, and to provide them with tents and alternative shelter. Palestinian data indicated that Israel escalated its aggression on the Gaza Strip coinciding with the approaching date of the Israeli general elections, despite the ceasefire agreement announced since October 10, 2025.

Tally of the ongoing war

The ministry noted that Israel continues its aggression on the Gaza Strip through shelling, firing, and carrying out demolition operations in the areas it occupies, and increasing the area of those territories. Since October 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in more than 74,000 killed and over 175,000 injured Palestinians, and massive destruction affecting 90 percent of civilian infrastructure.
