Escalation of Raids and Displacement
The Israeli army continued its assault on the Hebron governorate in the occupied West Bank for the eighth consecutive day on Friday, with raids and closures concentrated around the Old City. Local sources told Anadolu Agency that Israeli forces raided the Al-Jalda and Ain Deir Baha neighborhoods amid a heavy deployment of soldiers and military vehicles, and reinforcements were brought to the vicinity of the homes of the perpetrators of the Farsh al-Hawa operation.
Stricter Military Measures
Sources stated that forces forced dozens of Palestinians in the Ain Deir Baha neighborhood to evacuate their homes and conducted searches in the homes of Al-Jaaba, where digging sounds were heard inside them without further details. Anadolu Agency cameras documented Israeli forces arresting Palestinians at military checkpoints near the Al-Jalda roundabout in Hebron, searching and mistreating them, under a closure imposed on the city and surrounding villages since October 23.
Displacement and Arrest Toll
The Hebron Municipality said on Tuesday evening that the number of displaced people in the city reached 4,969 Palestinians, comprising 780 families, due to the continuous military aggression during which the army seized homes in the Al-Jalda and Ain Deir Baha neighborhoods and converted them into military barracks. According to a statement from the Palestinian Prisoners Club, the Israeli army arrested 110 Palestinians in the governorate since the start of the aggression until last Wednesday.
Broader Regional Context
This comes amid an escalation in Israeli army attacks and settler terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since the start of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip in October/November 2023. Palestinians warn that Israel is paving the way with this terrorism to officially declare the annexation of the West Bank, which means undermining the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state as stipulated in relevant UN resolutions.
