Continuation of Raids and Closures
The Israeli army continued its raids and closures around the Old City of Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, marking the seventh day of the ongoing assault. Local sources told Anadolu Agency that occupation forces continued to raid neighborhoods in Hebron city and towns in the governorate bearing the same name. They reported that forces were still seizing Palestinian homes in the Al-Jalida and Ain Deir Baha neighborhoods, converting them into military barracks.
Arrest and Search Operations
On Thursday, forces closed several iron gates around the Old City of Hebron. Anadolu Agency cameras documented the arrest of Palestinians at military checkpoints near the Al-Jalida roundabout in Hebron, where they were searched and mistreated. The Israeli army launched this assault on Friday following an attack carried out by two Palestinians that killed two Israeli soldiers and injured three others, before the army later killed the attackers.
Displaced Persons and Arrest Figures
Since Friday, the army has imposed a closure on Hebron city and surrounding villages. Hebron Municipality stated on Tuesday evening that the number of displaced persons in the city had reached 4,969 Palestinians, comprising 780 families, due to the ongoing military assault. During the first two days of the assault, Hebron witnessed widespread forced displacement, demolition of homes, facilities, and commercial shops, destruction of infrastructure in the city, conversion of some homes into military barracks, and the raising of Israeli flags on them.
Context of Regional Escalation
The Israeli army arrested 110 Palestinians in the governorate between Friday and Wednesday, according to a statement from the Palestinian Prisoners Club. This comes amid escalating Israeli army attacks and settler terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since the start of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip in October/November 2023. Palestinians warn that Israel is paving the way with this terrorism to formally annex the West Bank, which would undermine the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state as stipulated in relevant UN resolutions.
