Continuation of the Military Operation
The Israeli army continued its military operation in the Hebron governorate in the southern occupied West Bank on Sunday for the tenth consecutive day, amid strict closures imposed on three neighborhoods. The continuation of the operation has led to the displacement of approximately 537 families since its start, exacerbating the humanitarian situation in the area.
Riyad Khamis, the media official at the Support and Relief Committee in the governorate, said that about 537 families, comprising nearly 3,300 individuals, were forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing military operation. He indicated that the total number of affected people is estimated at around 5,000, amid the continuation of the siege and the disruption of commercial and economic movement.
Economic and Infrastructure Losses
Khamis added in a statement to Anadolu that direct daily economic losses resulting from the operation exceeded 12 million shekels ($3.8 million). Infrastructure damage also exceeded 6 million shekels ($1.9 million), and losses in the health and environmental sectors reached 500,000 shekels ($158,000).
He pointed out the complete closure of 327 commercial establishments and facilities, and the destruction of 15 facilities entirely. These figures come amid continued strict restrictions imposed by Israeli forces on movement in targeted areas, disrupting the daily lives of residents.
Neighborhood Siege and Impact on Education
In this context, Khamis stated that the Israeli army continues its siege on the neighborhoods of Al-Jalida, Ain Deir Balah, and Khalat Al-Maghribah in Hebron city, noting that 213 families are living under siege. Local sources told Anadolu that the siege coincides with tightened restrictions on citizens' movement and the evacuation of homes and buildings in the Farsah Al-Hawa area.
The official Palestinian news agency (Wafa) also reported that approximately 80,000 students have been deprived of attending their schools due to the ongoing military operation for the tenth day. Israeli forces arrested citizen Jamil Shuwayki and his daughter from the city; she is the wife of Hamouda Al-Juba, one of the perpetrators of the shooting incident in Hebron.
Relief Efforts and Historical Background
The Support and Relief Committee in Hebron confirmed in a statement that it continues its field work around the clock for the tenth day to support families forced by Israeli forces to leave their homes. It clarified that it has distributed aid including food parcels, baby milk, cleaning supplies, blankets, and sanitary items, alongside providing alternative accommodation.
On October 23, the Israeli army began its aggression on Hebron following a shooting operation carried out by two Palestinians, which resulted in the killing of two Israeli soldiers and the injury of three others. Since that day, the army has imposed a closure on the city and surrounding villages, seized homes in the Al-Jalida and Ain Deir Balah neighborhoods, and converted them into military barracks.
