Israeli forces demolished a residential building housing 7 apartments and 35 Palestinians near Qalandia camp in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday. The Jerusalem Governorate of Palestine stated in a statement received by Anadolu Agency that the machinery demolished the building in the Al-Wad area near the crusher adjacent to the camp, citing construction without a permit.
The governorate clarified that the demolished building belongs to the Abu Labba family, according to the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa). It added that the forces assaulted the homeowners with beatings and smashed a vehicle during the operation, with no immediate information available on injuries or shelter arrangements.
Restrictions on Construction
Israeli authorities impose strict restrictions on building permits for Palestinians. A report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics in October 2026 confirmed that Israel carried out 341 demolition operations in the West Bank and Jerusalem during the first half of the year, affecting 740 facilities.
The report pointed out the issuance of 254 demolition notices, including 34 in Jerusalem, amid warnings of the consequences of displacement and loss of livelihoods.
