Millions of Israelis head to polling stations on Tuesday to elect the 26th Knesset (parliament), the first legislative race since November 2022. According to Israel’s Central Elections Committee, 7,331,981 people are eligible to vote, an increase of 543,177 voters compared to the last elections.
Voters cast their ballots at 12,180 polling stations distributed across Israel, including 250 in hospitals and 55 in prisons. Israel constitutes a single electoral district, and voters choose party lists rather than individual candidates, while the prime minister is not directly elected by the public.
Thirty-eight lists registered for the elections, but the "Blue and White" list, led by former Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, withdrew, reducing the number to 37 lists. The Knesset comprises 120 seats, meaning forming any government requires the support of at least 61 members.
Polls suggest that 13 lists may succeed in entering the Knesset, including two representing Palestinians in Israel. No list gains representation in the Knesset unless it surpasses the electoral threshold of 3.25 percent of valid votes.
