The Israeli army has begun to implement an unprecedented military step in decades, by creating and constructing new sites and fortifications along the eastern border with Jordan, especially in the Wadi Araba area and areas adjacent to the common land border.
Israeli media confirmed the establishment of several military sites on the border between occupied Palestine and Jordan in the buffer zone between the fence and the Jordan River for the first time in decades.
The Israeli Army Radio pointed out that the step is unusual, and the sites are managed by groups of soldiers, indicating that Israel built a fence west of the Jordan River, in the 1970s, to establish a military zone, and most of the military sites operating in the area were closed after the Wadi Araba agreement with Jordan.
According to media reports, the Israeli moves included the construction of advanced observation towers, the digging of trenches and earthen berms, and the installation of checkpoints equipped with electronic monitoring systems and thermal cameras, as part of tightening control over the border strip and preventing infiltration and smuggling, which Israel says has seen a recent increase.
Western diplomatic sources considered that this military deployment represents a remarkable shift in Israel's security doctrine towards the Jordanian border, which for years has been classified as a stable and calm "border of peace" compared to the rest of the fronts.
Reports: Israel is increasing its forces 3fold on the Jordanian border
The monitoring platforms revealed that the Israeli army has nearly tripled the size of its forces along the Jordanian border compared to the usual rates during the past years, pointing out that Israel has created the 96th Division (Gilead/Eastern Division), the first division to be established in more than 46 years, and includes tens of thousands of reservists and volunteers, with the task of controlling the northern and central parts of the border in the Jordan Valley area.
Israel has reinforced the 80th Division (Edom) with additional units to secure the southern part of the valley to Wadi Arava and Eilat, in addition to integrating the David Brigades as regional defense units to protect settlements and areas adjacent to the eastern borders and the West Bank.
The reports monitored the establishment of fixed military points within the security buffer zone extending to the Jordan River, operated by reservists, in addition to the establishment of "focal farms" positions to ensure the permanent logistical survival of the forces. The Israeli Ministry of War also rehabilitated old barracks and bases that had been closed since the signing of the peace agreement in 1994, in an investment estimated at millions of dollars.
Jordan rejects any Israeli military actions or moves
Official and political sources in Amman confirmed that Jordan categorically rejects any Israeli military actions or moves that could change the reality on the ground, stressing that the Kingdom is dealing with the recent Israeli developments with a high degree of security and diplomatic vigilance.
In its political messages, Amman affirms that peace and the two-state solution is the only way to ensure security and stability, while reminding Israel that it is an occupying power bound by international law and has no right to take unilateral steps in the Palestinian territories adjacent to the Jordanian border.
On the ground, the Jordanian Armed Forces continue to enhance their readiness along the border, considering the protection of sovereignty and internal security as a red line, and its patrol units and monitoring systems are intensifying patrols and monitoring systems to counter any infiltration or smuggling attempts, within the framework of protecting national security from any regional threats.
Amman sees Israeli movements, both in the West Bank and near the border, as a growing concern, especially with regard to any scenarios of forced displacement of Palestinians, which the Jordanian government spokesman described as a "line of fire" that the kingdom will confront decisively.
