Start of Military Operation
The Israeli army announced on Friday evening the start of a military operation in the city of Hebron, south of the occupied West Bank, which will last for several days, following an armed attack that resulted in the death of two Israeli soldiers and injured others. The army stated in a statement that its forces, in cooperation with the General Security Service "Shabak", the Border Police, and the Civil Administration, began the operation in the area from which the perpetrators of the attack emerged, whom the army killed in an armed clash earlier on Friday.
Expansion of Operations
It added that forces began wide and focused search operations to look for weapons and what it described as "terror infrastructure", alongside interrogating dozens of suspects. It clarified that the operation is concentrated in a specific area in Hebron city, and the army will open 3 checkpoints for residents to leave after the searches. It pointed out that the operation comes as a continuation of military measures that included imposing a cordon on Hebron and Halhul, closing roads, and surveying the homes of the attack perpetrators in preparation for their demolition.
Escalation in the West Bank
It reported that its forces are currently conducting operations at dozens of sites across the West Bank, where the raid on Hebron coincided with raids on the cities of Nablus and Jenin in the northern West Bank, and its forces raided the homes of released prisoners. The Israeli newspapers "Yedioth Ahronoth" and "Walla" reported that the army imposed a complete military cordon on the two cities and activated a military procedure called "Gray Traps" to search Palestinian vehicles in the areas of Nablus, Jenin, and Jericho.
Settler Attacks
Channel 13 reported that the army announced the execution of wide arrest waves, while Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir mentioned reinforcing forces in Hebron, including the 98th Military Division. In a related context, the army raided the town of Kfar Deik west of Salfit, and a Palestinian was injured with bruises following an attack by settlers on him in the village of Al-Mughayir east of Ramallah, and settlers set fire to lands in the Banias area in the town of Nahalin south of Bethlehem.
