Israeli Army Radio announced on Monday that the military operation lasting 10 days in the Hebron governorate in the southern West Bank was "failed," confirming that the Benjamin Netanyahu government extended it for electoral motives. This came in a comment by its military correspondent Doron Kadosh, following the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the city.
Military Failure and Political Decisions
Kadosh added that the operation resulted in seizing only four weapons, pointing out a gap between politicians' statements before the start and the final results. He confirmed that the political level refused to withdraw before the elections, despite the views of field commanders who found no security justification for repeating the refugee camp model in the northern West Bank.
Conflicting Justifications
For its part, Channel 12 Israeli reported that government sources agreed to end the operation on two conditions: expanding the scope of evacuating civilians after any attack, and sending a message to the Palestinian Authority. The operation began on October 23 after the killing of two Israeli soldiers, causing the displacement of more than 3,300 Palestinians and the destruction of 15 homes.
Widespread Damage
Data from the Hebron governorate indicated that the operation caused destruction of infrastructure and disrupted the educational process. The army seized homes in the Jolda and Ein Deir Baha neighborhoods and converted them into barracks, amidst widespread forced displacement operations.
