The Israeli Broadcasting Authority revealed on Thursday evening US military movements involving the transfer of 10 cargo planes to Israeli air bases in the Negev in the south of the country, amid talk of a possible resumption of military confrontation with Iran. No US confirmation was issued for the information reported by the Authority, nor was the nature of the cargo transported by the planes clarified, or whether Washington had decided to launch an attack on Iran.
Military Reinforcements
The official Authority stated that the US planes landed at "Ovda" and "Nevatim" bases, claiming that other planes were sent to military bases in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. According to the report, the planes departed from "Fort Bliss" base in Texas, which houses one of the largest US Army centers specialized in air defense. It mentioned that the planes transported "Patriot" missile systems to enhance air defenses in the Gulf region.
Coordination and Expectations
The Authority quoted an Israeli official as saying that "Israel and the United States are coordinating closely, and although no decision has been made yet on this matter, Americans and Israelis are preparing for any decision taken by President (US) Donald Trump." He added that US forces are replenishing their arms supplies, amid expectations of the arrival of an aircraft carrier and an additional US Marine Corps unit in November.
Reactions and Warnings
Earlier on Thursday, the "Wall Street Journal" reported that US Central Command commander Brad Cooper briefed President Trump on options for potential attacks on Iran. For his part, US Senator Chris Murphy said he received a briefing on the potential plans, describing those plans as "crazy." A ceasefire agreement had been reached last April following attacks that began on February 28.
