Israeli settlers establish new outpost north of Nablus
A new Israeli settlement outpost at the northern entrance of Nablus has sparked Palestinian fears of escalating settler violence.

Israeli settlers established a new outpost at the northern entrance of Nablus in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, a move that sparked Palestinian fears of escalating settler terrorism against them. The Al-Bider Human Rights Organization stated in a bulletin that the settlers established the outpost in a location overlooking the Baloua neighborhood, raising concerns among residents about the repercussions for the area, nearby residential districts, and the movement of citizens.

For its part, the organization noted that it is monitoring field developments related to settlement expansion and its repercussions on Palestinians and their property. Since the start of the genocide in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, Israel has intensified the pace of settlement expansion in the West Bank, amid boasting by far-right political parties. On September 16, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated that his government has been working for four years to strengthen settlement.

The Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority added that settlers attempted to establish 21 new outposts in the West Bank during September, including 10 in the Ramallah and Nablus governorate. The Authority previously stated in a bulletin that settlers established 200 outposts in the West Bank over 1,000 days since the start of the genocide war in Gaza in October 2023.

This settlement expansion coincides with escalating attacks by the Israeli army and settler terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank, including killings, burning of homes and vehicles and mosques, and confiscation of agricultural land. Official data estimates the number of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, at approximately 750,000, residing in 194 settlements and nearly 400 outposts.
