Italy works to de-escalate and ensure freedom of navigation in the Middle East
Tayani confirms that countries in the Istanbul meeting work to de-escalate and ensure freedom of navigation through dialogue.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed that countries participating in the Istanbul meeting seek joint efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and ensure freedom of navigation. This came during statements to journalists on Friday, following his participation in a meeting of foreign ministers of the "R4" and "E3" groups in Istanbul.

In the same context, Tajani clarified that rising oil and gas prices are putting pressure on global economies, emphasizing the importance of energy and food security. He pointed out the necessity of ensuring the transport of fertilizers and grains through the Black Sea to Africa and other countries, reaffirming his country's support for dialogue as the only solution to problems rather than military solutions.

For his part, the Italian deputy minister pointed to his country's support for efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait within the "Aspides" and "Atalanta" missions. He added that participating countries will continue their meetings in Berlin and Cairo, then Rome, noting that reopening the Strait of Hormuz requires encouraging dialogue.

Tajani confirmed that his country does not approve of the Israeli government's decision to impose a "complete blockade" on the West Bank. He emphasized the importance of establishing a Palestinian state, affirming the necessity of reunifying the West Bank and Gaza Strip and strengthening the Palestinian National Authority to pave the way for an independent state that recognizes Israel and is recognized by it.
