Jab al-Ramleh Research Station in Hama Develops New Cotton Varieties
Jab al-Ramleh research station in rural Hama continues efforts to produce high-quality, stress-resistant cotton varieties.

The Jab al-Ramleh Research Station, affiliated with the Ghab Research Center in rural Hama, continues conducting ongoing research to develop new cotton varieties characterized by high production specifications, according to the station's director, Dr. Adhi Ismail.

Ismail clarified in a statement to a SANA correspondent today, Friday, that the station aims to reach new varieties characterized by early maturity, resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, good oil content, and high economic value, such as long-staple cotton and colored cotton, thereby ensuring integrated cotton crop management and achieving sustainability.

Genetic Improvement and Development of Treatments

The station director pointed out that researchers are conducting experiments aimed at the genetic improvement of local cotton varieties, preserving their genetic purity, securing agricultural seeds, renewing genetic resources, and introducing new resources from international research centers, with a focus on developing agricultural treatments suitable for each variety and region.

Ismail noted that research focuses on identifying optimal agricultural services, reducing production input costs, and improving water use efficiency without affecting productivity, which contributes to limiting the depletion of water resources and encouraging farmers to use healthy and environmentally safe agricultural alternatives.

The Station's Role in the Agricultural Sector

The Jab al-Ramleh Research Station, affiliated with the General Organization for Scientific Agricultural Research, specializes in irrigated crops and cotton research in the Ghab Plain area, playing an important role in the agricultural and livestock sectors through conducting scientific experiments on fertilization and agricultural services, developing organic cotton research, and studying the crop's value chains.
