Japan's Nikkei index rose today on Thursday, driven by improved earnings expectations for Advantest, a manufacturer of electronic chip equipment, despite being affected by a decline in shares of South Korean electronics company Samsung.
Reuters reported that the index closed the morning session up by 0.3% at 64,131.28 points, having previously recorded a rise of 1.3% before Samsung announced its results.
Advantest shares rose by 5.4%, following a previous rise of 9.1% after it raised its annual operating profit forecast by 14% yesterday Wednesday after trading ended.
In the same context, other shares related to electronic chips and artificial intelligence wiped out early gains, with Tokyo Electron shares falling by 0.9% and SoftBank Group shares dropping by 0.6%.
For his part, Hitachi shares fell by 8.7%, becoming the biggest decliner on the index, despite raising its full-year profit forecast.
It was noted that among the 225 Nikkei index stocks, 123 fell and 99 rose, while three remained unchanged.
Japan, South Korea, and the United States are experiencing the peak of the technology company earnings season, where SK Hynix's results provided support to the index.
It added that Wall Street saw mixed performance overnight, as Alphabet announced a significant liquidity drain causing its share to drop, while Microsoft achieved results that exceeded expectations in cash flows.
