The Jerusalem Governorate revealed on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation plans to establish 122 new settlement units in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, warning of its attempts to impose a new reality at the expense of the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian news agency "Wafa" quoted the Governorate as stating that the project is located at the site of the historic Shepherd Hotel, on an area of 5.8 dunams, within buildings consisting of 12 floors, and is backed by the "Amana" settlement movement. The first session to discuss the project is scheduled for November 11, without having obtained final approval so far.
The Governorate warned that this plan comes in the context of escalating settlement projects targeting the neighborhood, seeking to impose a new reality at the expense of the Palestinian presence, while residents of the neighborhood continue to defend their homes and resist attempts at forced eviction. The colonial expansion threatens to change the demographic and geographical character of the neighborhood, undermining the rights of Palestinian residents in their land and properties.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on April 24 the approval by Israeli occupation authorities of a plan to establish a Jewish school in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, emphasizing that these measures fall within the occupation's systematic plans to Judaize the holy city, change its identity, and falsify historical facts within it.
