Jordan Arrests Karak Attack Perpetrators After Armed Clash
Jordanian authorities arrest three suspects involved in the Karak church attack following a shootout that left them severely wounded.

Jordanian authorities announced on Monday the arrest of the three perpetrators of the attack on mourners near a church in Karak Governorate, following an armed clash that left them with "severe" injuries.

The General Security Directorate stated in a statement that joint investigation and raid teams and security agencies located the perpetrators in an abandoned house in Karak Governorate, in the south of the country, on Monday morning, after continuous search and sweep operations since the attack occurred.

It added that the perpetrators fortified themselves inside the house and "refused to surrender and initiated firing bullets towards the security force."

Details of the Arrest and Confrontation

It clarified that the force applied engagement rules until they were subdued and arrested after all of them were injured, noting that firearms and equipment were seized from them after searching the site.

For his part, Interior Minister Mazen al-Frayeh told the official "Al-Mamlaka" channel that the three perpetrators are Jordanians and that security agencies identified them from the beginning of the incident.

He added that they showed "fierce resistance" to the security force and were arrested after suffering "severe" injuries.

Extensive Intelligence Efforts

He explained that operational and intelligence efforts began from the first day of the attack to locate them, including raids on sites in different areas.

According to the minister, these efforts included expanding the circle of suspicion to areas the perpetrators might have used, using available technical and visual means to gather information, and interrogating suspected individuals.

Al-Frayeh pointed out that the perpetrators fortified themselves in a building within one of Karak's villages, near the attack site.

Confirmation of No External Links

He confirmed the absence of indications confirming their link to external entities, stressing that discussing this matter is still premature.

He called for "rejecting violence and extremism," stating that "confronting terrorism requires working on addressing the causes that may push youth to engage in it."

The attack, on Friday, targeted mourners near St. George's Church in Hamoud village, resulting in the death of 9 people, according to the latest tally conveyed by "Al-Mamlaka" channel on Saturday.

National Reactions and Security Decisions

Thousands of Jordanians participated on Sunday in the victims' funeral ceremonies, attended by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Royal Court Chief Youssef al-Eisawi, with the bodies transported in coffins draped in the Jordanian flag.

Following the assault, Jordan announced a three-day national mourning, and King Abdullah II visited the injured at Karak Government Hospital.

The King also chaired a meeting of the National Security Council on Saturday, during which he directed the preparation of a comprehensive security assessment of the mechanism for dealing with the attack and a review of policies combating extremist ideology.
