Enhancing Treatment Opportunities

Hospital Director Nizar Rustum clarified in a statement to a SANA correspondent that the objective of organizing the scientific day is to enhance community awareness of the importance of early detection and encourage women to seek medical examinations in a timely manner, which helps identify cases in early stages and grants patients better treatment opportunities. He pointed out that early detection and medical follow-up contribute to improving survival chances and increasing treatment effectiveness.

Rustum also noted that the axes of the scientific day included surgical aspects related to breast cancer, detection and radiological monitoring methods using ultrasound and mammography, alongside the latest treatment protocols encompassing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormonal therapy, and immunotherapy.

Pink Month Activities

For her part, Resident Physician Reem Al-Saleh, in her third year of general surgery specialization at the hospital, explained in a similar statement that the scientific day comes within the framework of Pink Month activities and aims to inform women about breast cancer, its types, and treatment methods, emphasizing that early detection helps manage the disease more effectively.

Al-Saleh highlighted the importance of women adhering to regular examinations, particularly women over the age of forty, and younger women with risk factors or a family history of the disease, stressing the necessity of consulting a specialist doctor upon noticing any abnormal changes in the breast.

The scientific day comes within the framework of efforts aimed at enhancing awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, and solidifying the culture of regular screening among women, thereby contributing to identifying cases in early stages and improving treatment opportunities, alongside supporting the role of health institutions and medical staff in spreading awareness and providing necessary diagnostic and treatment services.
