Latakia and Tartus carry out 2,253 supply seizures in October
The directorates of trade in Latakia and Tartus conducted 2,253 supply seizures in October to enhance oversight and protect consumers.

The directorates of internal trade and consumer protection in the Latakia and Tartus governorates organized 2,253 supply seizures during October last year, as part of efforts to strengthen market oversight, curb fraud and manipulation, ensure the quality and safety of goods, protect consumers' rights, and reinforce compliance with prevailing laws and regulations.

Abdul Wahab Al-Safar, the director of internal trade and consumer protection in both governorates, clarified that the directorates carried out 1,148 field supervisory patrols, covering 9,842 commercial activities in various areas, reflecting the broad scope of supervisory work and direct follow-up on market conditions.

Building a commercial environment that supports quality and competition

Al-Safar stated that protecting citizens' health, ensuring food safety, and combating fraud and manipulation constitute work priorities, pointing to a shift towards enhancing proactive oversight and utilizing data and modern technologies to improve performance efficiency and accelerate response times.

Al-Safar noted that a disciplined market relies on compliance and awareness and a decline in violations, which allows compliant traders and producers to excel and innovate, and strengthens competition based on quality and fair pricing, free from fraud, monopoly, and harmful practices.

Al-Safar emphasized that the goal is to build a modern commercial environment that ensures consumer safety and rights, enhances the role of the compliant trader as a partner in market development, and makes oversight a tool for entrenching integrity and equal opportunity, thereby supporting quality, innovation, and competition.

These figures fall within the framework of developing supervisory work by adopting electronic seizures and Quick Response (QR) codes, and utilizing data to guide field tours and anticipate violations.

The two directorates previously launched initiatives to enhance voluntary compliance, most notably the "Compliant Trader" initiative last August, aimed at strengthening the partnership between traders and regulatory authorities and entrenching a more transparent and disciplined market.
