The Latakia Directorate of Education and Teaching reopened six schools in the city of Latakia and its countryside today, Tuesday, after their renovation by the Ni'ma Relief and Development Foundation.
The opened schools included Manahil al-Ma'rifa in the Qanins neighborhood, Arab al-Malik in the Jableh area, and Al-Kart in the Haffah area, in addition to the Maronites, Ain Ghazal, and Wadi Bassour schools in the villages of Jabal al-Akrad.
For his part, Latakia Education Director Waleed Kaboula told SANA today, Tuesday, that the opening of the schools comes within the framework of the Ministry of Education's plan to alleviate burdens on students and enhance educational stability in areas witnessing the return of residents.
The CEO of the Ni'ma Relief and Development Foundation, Samir Shariki, in a similar statement, indicated that the renovation works of the Ain Ghazal, Wadi Bassour, and Maronites schools took about four months, including renovation, cladding, and providing furniture, to prepare suitable conditions for receiving students.
Shariki clarified that the foundation aims to support residents and enhance their stability in their villages through renovating their homes, noting the completion of renovating 850 homes so far.
He added that the second phase of the project will include renovating the necessary infrastructure to support the stability of residents in return areas, along with renovating mosques in the coming period.
The Latakia Directorate of Education and Teaching had previously opened 14 schools after their rehabilitation in the Akrad and Turkmen mountains in the countryside of the governorate on September 10, coinciding with the start of the new academic year, as part of efforts to support the return of residents to their areas and provide a suitable educational environment for their children.
