Latakia Port Receives Six Modern Cranes to Enhance Terminal Efficiency
Latakia Port receives five-generation bridge cranes to boost container terminal capacity and operational efficiency.

Latakia Port today received six modern rubber-tired bridge cranes of the fifth generation, as part of a partnership with the global CMA CGM Group. This step comes within the efforts to update the handling equipment fleet and enhance the terminal's operational capabilities to keep pace with the growing growth in maritime shipping traffic and commercial exchange.

The Director of International Relations and Cooperation Department, Mazen Alloush, clarified in a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on Wednesday that the new cranes constitute a qualitative addition to the terminal's work system. He pointed out that this equipment is characterized by advanced operational technologies that contribute to raising the efficiency of container handling, organizing stacking and storage operations, and increasing the storage capacity of the yards.

In the same context, Alloush confirmed that these cranes will contribute to speeding up loading and unloading operations and reducing truck waiting times, thereby enhancing the flow of logistics operations and raising productivity levels. He noted that the arrival of this equipment comes as a continuation of a series of development works that include rehabilitating infrastructure, developing quays, and updating bridge cranes and heavy equipment.

He added that the development plan focuses on raising the readiness of quays to receive ships and enhancing the efficiency of cranes dedicated to loading and unloading operations. It also aims to update the handling and internal transport system, and improve operational procedures and coordination between technical and administrative departments to accelerate the container turnover cycle and elevate the level of services provided to shipping lines and freight companies.

For his part, Alloush emphasized that these works gain special importance in light of the growing activity at the container terminal and the accompanying increase in handling requirements. He pointed out that these steps fall within the strategic direction of the General Authority for Ports and Customs to develop Syrian ports according to international operational standards, and to benefit from partnerships with specialized global companies.

Latakia Port recorded on the fifth of the current month the handling of more than 3.7 million tons of general cargo and container cargo until the end of September 2026, with ship reception and cargo handling operations continuing around the clock.
