Latakia’s Metal and Wood Construction Factories Resume Production
Syrian Construction and Building Establishment restarts Latakia factories after local machine rehabilitation to fulfill public and private sector contracts.

The metal and wood construction factories affiliated with the Syrian Construction and Building Establishment in Latakia have resumed their production activity, after rehabilitating and repairing machinery using local capabilities and expertise, to begin executing contracts and securing requirements for construction projects, and meeting the needs of the public and private sectors.

The head of the industrial sector in the establishment, Fater Ahmed, clarified that the metal construction factory signed a contract with the General Electricity Establishment to manufacture 1,000 tons of medium and low voltage tension towers for aerial networks with a voltage of 20 kilovolts. It is also participating in the rehabilitation project of areas damaged by fires in the Basit region and other areas, by manufacturing approximately 206 tons of metal works. He added that the factory’s production includes doors, windows, railings, handrails, and metal structures.

For his part, Metal Construction Director Engineer Anwar Mariyah stated that the factory employs approximately 45 workers, with a monthly capacity of 30 tons of light metal products, and 50 to 70 tons of heavy works, including electrical towers, tractor boilers, and fuel tanks with capacities ranging between 25,000 and 100,000 liters, in addition to water tanks, university seats, and stadium seating.

Mariyah confirmed the factory’s readiness to meet requests from the public and private sectors and the establishment’s project needs, while securing raw materials through the Supply Branch. The wood construction factory has also resumed production after maintaining machines that were vandalized and stolen. It is currently operating with local staff comprising 15 workers, who completed the technical services contract and are continuing to execute wooden works for the Engineering Expansion project and the rehabilitation of the Administrative Development building, including doors, wardrobes, windows, seats, and office fittings.

Head of the Finishing Department Engineer Hamid Baghdad indicated that the factory meets the establishment’s project needs through manufacturing and maintaining wooden products, using types of wood available in the local market. He confirmed its readiness to execute requests from the public and private sectors according to required specifications. The restart of the two factories comes within the establishment’s plan to revive its production facilities and utilize local capabilities and expertise, contributing to securing project requirements, reducing manufacturing and external procurement costs, activating local production, providing job opportunities, and enhancing reliance on national capacities.
