Launch of project to remove 300,000 cubic meters of rubble in Harasta
A new project to clear rubble in Harasta's Ajami district aims to rebuild the area and enable residents' return.

The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, in cooperation with the Damascus countryside governorate, launched a new project today, Wednesday, to remove rubble from the Ajami district in Harasta city, with the aim of paving the way for the district's reconstruction and preparing conditions for residents to return to their homes.

The project aims to remove approximately 300,000 cubic meters of rubble, as part of efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure in damaged areas. Damascus countryside Governor Amer Al-Sheikh clarified that the Ajami district covers an area of 17 hectares and contained more than 35,000 residential units before the destruction it suffered.

Recycling rubble and utilizing it

For his part, Deputy Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Munir Mustafa indicated that the project is part of a series of projects launched by the ministry to remove rubble in Syrian governorates. He confirmed that the rubble will be transported to a designated landfill for recycling and reuse in the district's infrastructure works, which contributes to preparing conditions for the return of displaced persons.

Mustafa added that the Ajami district suffered widespread destruction due to shelling, because of its location near one of the military barracks used by the former regime. Harasta City Council President Al-Bara Shalla also noted that the launch of the project was delayed due to logistical difficulties, particularly securing a designated landfill for rubble before the work began.

Al-Sheikh pointed out that the quantities targeted in the current phase do not include all the rubble in the district, necessitating the implementation of additional phases to complete its removal. He highlighted coordination with various entities to establish appropriate mechanisms for reconstructing the district, in cooperation with the city council, residents, and relevant government bodies.
