Launch of Sewer Network Replacement Project in Kafr Nabudah
Technical workshops in Idlib begin replacing a 7km sewer network to serve 40,000 people under the Syria Without Camps vision.

Technical workshops at the Syrian Establishment for Construction and Building (Sibco) branch in Idlib, in cooperation with Kafr Nabudah Municipality, have begun implementing a project to replace the old sewer network with a new one spanning 7 kilometers, as part of the "Syria Without Camps" vision.

Engineer Mohammed Mansour, from the branch, clarified that the project currently underway includes the construction of catch basins and storm drains to divert rainwater, aiming to provide sustainable infrastructure serving approximately 40,000 residents and encouraging displaced residents to return voluntarily and safely to their cities and villages. He noted that the timeline for completing the work extends to about three months.

Mansour pointed out that the project falls within efforts to improve basic services and create suitable conditions for the return of residents, ultimately aiming to fully close the camp file. For his part, Kafr Nabudah Municipality Council President Alaa Al-Khatib stated that residents began returning to the city after liberation, despite the extensive damage inflicted on infrastructure by the ousted regime’s practices, particularly water and sewer networks that were taken out of service.

Al-Khatib emphasized that implementing the project, despite the accompanying excavations, road closures, and reconnection of household lines, will help reduce future breakdowns, noting that subsequent projects are planned to expand the network and complete maintenance works. For his part, Arfat Al-Haroub, a resident who returned from displacement camps, clarified that the weakness of services and the sewer network being out of service were among the main obstacles preventing his family from returning to the city.

The sewer network rehabilitation works in Kafr Nabudah come as part of a series of service projects implemented by government institutions in southern Idlib countryside, in execution of Presidential Decree No. 59 of 2025 regarding the follow-up of the displaced return file within the "Syria Without Camps" vision, aiming to rehabilitate infrastructure and basic services damaged by the ousted regime’s crimes.
