The 15th annual conference of the Middle East Association for Cancer Research, titled "Cancer Research: From Laboratory to Clinic," kicked off today, Monday, in Aleppo. It is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Syria Future Organization and the University of Aleppo. Researchers and specialists from several countries are participating in the conference to discuss the latest developments in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Conference Themes
The conference lasts for two days, in addition to a workshop on October 27. It covers topics including immunotherapy, cancer genomics, clinical trials, and targeted therapies. It also focuses on ways to translate research findings from laboratories to clinical applications, thereby contributing to improved patient care.
Conference Objectives
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan Al-Halabi clarified that the conference showcases the latest developments in genetic and molecular studies and modern treatments, based on scientific evidence to improve medical services. Al-Halabi pointed out the importance of the conference in raising the scientific level of medical and pharmacy students and resident doctors, and enhancing research cooperation between universities and research centers.
Regional Cooperation
For his part, Dr. Alaa Al-Din Mustafa, founder of the association, stated that the association was established in 2009 and held its first executive committee meeting at the University of Aleppo in 2010. He noted that the association organizes an annual conference in one of the Middle Eastern countries, adding that the return of the conference to the University of Aleppo highlights the university's role in supporting scientific research and regional cooperation.
Dr. Muhammad Al-A'ma, a member of the board of trustees of the Syria Future Organization, explained that the organization's participation aims to transfer the expertise of Syrian academics residing abroad to the country. In turn, Dr. Fawaz Shihna, head of the organizing committee, stated that the meeting brings together Syrian, Arab, and foreign researchers to present the latest research, emphasizing the importance of encouraging students to engage in scientific research.
The Middle East Association for Cancer Research is a non-profit scientific association that launched a peer-reviewed scientific journal named "Clinical Cancer Investigation Journal" in 2012 to publish specialized research in the field of cancer.
