Launch of the Pascal Prize for Literature and Artificial Intelligence in France
France launches the Pascal Prize to honor literary works created with AI, with nominations open until November 30.

France has launched the "Pascal Prize for Literature and Artificial Intelligence" to honor literary works produced by writers in collaboration with artificial intelligence tools, in an initiative aimed at opening the door to a new debate on the nature of literary creativity and the role of modern technologies in writing and authorship.

For his part, the official website of the prize, which announced the opening of nominations on October 20, stated that the initiative targets works written in French from various countries, without requiring the applicant to be a professional writer or the work to be published by a traditional publishing house.

The conditions indicated the necessity of submitting a manuscript that has not been previously published, along with a technical file detailing the AI tools used. A specialized committee will evaluate the works based on their aesthetic, narrative, and stylistic quality, with the deadline for receiving entries set for November 30.

It added that the prize bears the name of the French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal, and was founded by technology entrepreneurs Philippe Rodriguez, Alban Servian, and Gilles Mentré, with the winner's name to be announced in December.

In this context, the initiative comes amid an escalating debate in French literary circles regarding the use of artificial intelligence in authorship, particularly following the controversy sparked by allegations that these tools were used in writing the novel "This or Death" by Canadian author Aurélien Thelsson.

It pointed out that the prize raises questions about the boundaries of collaboration between the writer and the machine, and how to preserve the uniqueness of the creative experience while benefiting from the potential of modern technology, amidst growing calls for transparency, the authenticity of literary works, and authors' rights.
