Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Youssef Raji called on Sunday for Iran and its "proxies" to stop attacks on the Gulf Cooperation Council states and Jordan, affirming Lebanon's solidarity with them.
The Lebanese National News Agency quoted Raji as saying, during his participation in the 52nd session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Council in Baghdad, that "Lebanon adheres to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which calls for an immediate cessation of these attacks."
He pointed out the rejection of any restrictions on freedom of navigation in international waterways, particularly the Hormuz Strait and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, emphasizing the government's commitment to restricting weapons to legitimate security apparatuses and extending state authority over its entire territory.
Iranian Interventions and Lebanese Affairs
For his part, Raji called on Iran to stop its interventions in Lebanese affairs and to cease supplying the Hezbollah militia with weapons and money, affirming that Lebanon rejects any violation of its national sovereignty.
He added that Lebanon condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the occupation of parts of its territory, considering them a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
Call for Israeli Withdrawal
He called for Israel's complete withdrawal from Lebanese territories, the return of displaced persons, reconstruction, and the recovery of prisoners, within the framework of diplomatic solutions and efforts aimed at strengthening the sovereignty of the Lebanese state.
Baghdad is hosting the 52nd session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Council on October 17 and 18, under the theme "Dialogue and Solidarity: Two Fundamental Pillars to Enhance Peace and Sustainable Development."
The session discusses the Palestinian issue, regional crises, economic cooperation, food security, and sustainable development, amid ongoing regional tensions.
