Former Israeli Defense Minister and leader of the "Israel Beiteinu" party, Avigdor Lieberman, announced on Tuesday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may launch a military operation against Iran, Hamas, or Hezbollah before the elections scheduled for October 27. This came during statements made by Lieberman at an event in Herzliya, central Israel, according to the "Yisrael Hayom" newspaper.

Lieberman emphasized that Netanyahu is strongly seeking a military step before the elections, noting that his motives are not security-related but rather a desire to cling to power. Lieberman ruled out Netanyahu joining any government formed by the opposition after the elections, affirming that he "must leave" and cannot even hold the position of Minister of Regional Cooperation.

Background of the conflict with Iran

On June 13, 2025, a confrontation erupted between Israel and Iran that lasted 12 days, during which Israel targeted Iranian nuclear facilities and military sites, while Tehran responded by launching ballistic missiles and drones. On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Confrontations with Hezbollah and Hamas

Regarding Hezbollah, confrontations began on March 2 of last year, resulting in the killing of 4,389 and the wounding of 12,424, according to a statistic issued on October 12 of last year. Despite the "framework formula" agreement on June 26 of last year, Israel continues its attacks in southern Lebanon.

As for Hamas, Israel launched a genocide against it starting on October 8, 2023, resulting in the death of more than 74,000 and the wounding of 175,000. Despite the ceasefire in October 2025, Israel continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Political context

Netanyahu has been leading the current government since late December 2022, described as the most right-wing in Israel's history. It is noted that Israel was established in 1948 on lands occupied by Zionist gangs that committed massacres and displaced no less than 750,000 Palestinians.
