Maduro Rejects Charges Before New York Court
Maduro and his wife deny torture and terrorism charges in New York after US military arrest.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro rejected the charges brought against him before a court in New York, which relate to accusations of issuing orders to torture individuals during his tenure. This rejection followed the United States' detention of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, resulting from a US military intervention on January 3.

In the same context, Cilia Flores confirmed her rejection of charges related to the torture of Americans and other individuals detained in Venezuela, as well as existing charges concerning drugs and weapons. Nicolas Maduro Guerra, the president's son, described his parents' stance before the court as one of steadfastness and strength, praising his father's resilience and his wife's support.

For her part, the court announced that the next session will be held on December 17 to consider the defense's arguments requesting the dismissal of the case. Maduro and his wife have been detained since January 3 at the Metropolitan Detention Center in the Brooklyn neighborhood of New York City, where criminal charges against them include drug-related terrorism and cocaine smuggling.

Reports indicated that the US military launched an attack on Venezuela on January 3, resulting in the arrest of the president and his wife and their transfer to the United States. US President Donald Trump also later announced that his country would assume management of Venezuelan affairs during a transitional period and would send its companies to invest in the oil sector without specifying a timeline.
