Maintenance begins on the fourth gas unit at Jinder power station to enhance readiness
Routine maintenance of the fourth gas unit at Jinder power station in Homs to improve efficiency and operational readiness.

Technical and engineering staff at Jinder Electric Power Generation Station began, on Sunday, routine maintenance of the fourth gas unit, coinciding with maintenance of the fourth boiler. These works aim to improve generation efficiency, enhance equipment readiness for return to service, boost reliability, and reduce unplanned outages.

Station Manager Engineer Ahmad al-Raj told SANA that the maintenance includes inspecting hot parts of the gas unit, particularly burners, gas passages, and fixed and moving first-stage blades. This inspection aims to verify their integrity and determine repair or replacement needs, contributing to restoring their efficiency and design output.

Generation Capacity

Al-Raj stated that the gas turbine capacity is approximately 90 megawatts, while the connected steam unit capacity is about 45 megawatts, bringing the total capacity to approximately 135 megawatts. He clarified that maintenance activities have not affected electricity production, as other generation units continue to operate, according to operational coordination and available gas quantities.

For his part, Mechanical Maintenance Department Deputy Head Engineer Muhammad al-Yusuf explained that the maintenance is part of a preventive program executed every 5,000 operating hours and lasts about 15 days. It includes maintenance of the fourth boiler through welding works, valve replacements, and servicing of several of its components.

Al-Yusuf pointed out the availability of necessary spare parts in the company’s warehouses, emphasizing that maintenance is carried out by experienced national staff from within the station. This preventive maintenance contributes to improving operational efficiency, extending equipment lifespan, and reducing unplanned outages, thereby enhancing the utilization of available capacities.
