Early victory at the V茅lodrome
Olympique Marseille continued their resurgence in Ligue 1 by defeating visitors Toulouse 2-0 on Sunday at the "V茅lodrome" stadium, in the ninth round of the competition. Marseille imposed their dominance early, needing only two minutes to open the scoring, as Algerian Amine Gouiri played a precise pass to Moroccan Amin Harit, who finished with the inside of his foot, beating goalkeeper Guillaume Restes despite his attempts to save it.
Secondary goal and crucial save
In the 25th minute, Marseille exploited a Toulouse error in building up play, with the ball reaching Brazilian Igor Paix茫o, who headed it towards Amine Gouiri. The latter controlled it inside the penalty area and fired a powerful low shot into the far corner, extending his team's lead to 2-0. Toulouse tried to return quickly to the match and almost equalized through Danish player Thomas J酶rgensen, but Marseille goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange saved his attempt, before Touchukwu Nandi intervened to clear another attempt from Casper Tengstedt away from the goal.
Goal disallowed and points stagnate
The visitors managed to reach the net through Danish player Casper Tengstedt in the 68th minute, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside after referring to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology. Toulouse continued their attempts without managing to overcome goalkeeper de Lange, who saved several dangerous chances. With this result, Marseille moved up to sixth place with 15 points, continuing their winning streak which has now reached four consecutive victories, while Toulouse's points remained at 10, keeping them in eleventh place.
Maintaining relative leadership
Despite continuous pressure from Toulouse in the final minutes, Marseille maintained their lead to secure a new victory that strengthened their resurgence in the competition. Marseille almost added a third goal before the end of the first half, but Algerian Haimad Abdelli missed a clear chance after attempting to chip the goalkeeper. Marseille retreated somewhat to their defensive areas in the second half against increasing offensive pressure from Toulouse.
