Mecca Pact delegations hold talks in Tehran to support mediation between Iran and the US
Saudi, Turkish, and Pakistani delegations meet in Tehran to de-escalate tensions and support Qatari and Pakistani mediation efforts.

Delegations from the Mecca Pact countries held talks in Tehran on Monday as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions and support mediation between the United States and Iran. This visit comes within the framework of efforts aimed at encouraging dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and supporting mediation efforts undertaken by Qatar and Pakistan. The meeting between the Pact countries and Iran confirmed the pivotal role of Mecca Agreement countries in establishing regional security and stability.

For his part, the Iranian Tasnim News Agency quoted Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stating that senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan will visit Tehran. He clarified that these officials are the Saudi Minister of Defense, the Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir, and the head of Turkish intelligence Ibrahim Kalin. He added that they will meet with Mohsen Rezaee, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and that the talks will cover regional security issues.

In the same context, the official Saudi channel "Al-Ekhbariya" stated on Monday that Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman is leading the Kingdom's delegation on a visit to Tehran. It added that a meeting between Mecca Pact countries and Iran confirmed "the pivotal role of Mecca Agreement countries in establishing regional security and stability and working with all regional countries to achieve this." The channel did not specify the Iranian officials who met with the representatives of the Pact countries.

These developments come amid ongoing regional tensions, as Saudi Arabia faces attacks by missiles and drones launched by the Yemeni Houthi group, accused of receiving Iranian support. Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition to support the legitimate government in its neighbor Yemen, in confrontation with the Houthi group, which has controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since September 2014. As of now, no further details were available regarding the duration of the visit or the meeting schedule.
