Messi leads Inter Miami to MLS Playoffs Qualification
Inter Miami's 2-0 win over New York City secures playoff berth thanks to a decisive assist from Messi.

Inter Miami secured a second consecutive victory in Major League Soccer, defeating visitors New York City 2-0 on Thursday at "DRV PNK Stadium". Argentine star Lionel Messi contributed to this win by setting up the second goal for his compatriot Rodrigo De Paul before the end of the first half, confirming his influential role in leading the team towards qualification.

Inter Miami started the match with attacking pressure that resulted in the opening goal in the 20th minute through Mexican Germán Berterame, who capitalized on a pass from Uruguayan Luis Suárez. The team continued their efforts and managed to score the second goal in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time, following a counter-attack finished by De Paul with a powerful shot, benefiting from Messi's pass.

In the second half, the home side maintained their lead despite New York City's attempts to narrow the gap. In the seventh minute of stoppage time, the referee awarded a penalty to the visiting team after Brazilian Talles Magno was fouled. Argentine Nicolás Fernández Mercau took the penalty, but Inter Miami's Canadian goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair saved it, keeping his clean sheet for the second consecutive match.

With this victory, Inter Miami raised their tally to 52 points, securing qualification to the playoffs, while New York City remained on 33 points in tenth place. Inter Miami continues their campaign to defend their MLS title, maintaining their positive results which began with a 4-0 win over D.C. United in the previous round.
