Meteorology warns of floods in coastal and northern areas due to a low-pressure system
Warning of floods and thunderstorms in coastal and northwestern regions with dropping temperatures.

Shadi Jawish, Director of Atmospheric Observation at the National Center for Meteorology, warned of the possibility of flash floods resulting from heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in the coastal and northwestern regions of Syria during the next 24 hours.

Jawish stated in an interview with SANA on Thursday that the impact of the atmospheric instability experienced in the country during the previous night began to gradually dissipate during the early morning hours, making the weather relatively stable. He noted that the country is currently affected by a low-pressure system impacting the coastal and northwestern regions in particular.

Jawish explained that chances of rainfall are concentrated in the coming hours in the coastal and northern areas, with the possibility of flash floods due to heavy rain, while chances of precipitation are relatively weak in other regions, with parts of the central region possibly experiencing scattered showers.

Jawish indicated that the low-pressure system will gradually weaken during the night hours, with weak chances of scattered showers remaining in the coastal area tomorrow, noting that temperatures will drop during the next 24 hours.

He clarified that the current low-pressure system differs from the atmospheric instability that affected the country since Tuesday afternoon, particularly the eastern region, the desert, and the Jazira region, where conditions were unstable and different from normal weather. He explained that this low is accompanied by heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and hail, especially in the coastal and northwestern regions.

Jawish pointed out that the weather will be relatively stable at the beginning of next week, with warnings of fog formation in several areas, particularly the Qalamoun region and the central region.

Jawish added that forecasts indicate the country may be affected by a new low-pressure system at the end of the week, with details of the weather condition becoming clearer as the time approaches.

Meteorology forecasts maximum and minimum temperatures in Syrian governorates, reaching 22/12 in Damascus, 18/9 in Damascus countryside-Qalamoun, 22/13 in Quneitra, 24/15 in Daraa, 22/13 in Suwayda, 23/13 in Homs, 23/15 in Hama, 24/20 in Latakia, 22/19 in Tartous, 23/14 in Aleppo, 22/15 in Idlib, 24/14 in Deir Ezzor, 23/13 in Raqqa, and 22/16 in Al-Hasaka.
