Microsoft is working on developing the search feature in the Windows 11 operating system by adding interactive tools that allow users to execute tasks and modify system settings directly from search results, without the need to navigate to applications or settings menus.
Search and Control Enhancements
The tech website Digital Trends reported on Saturday that the company has launched new experimental versions of the system via the "Beta" and "Experimental" channels, which include improvements to search capabilities, along with new procedures to enhance the privacy of feedback and comments from business sector clients.
The new features allow users to control various device settings directly from the search bar, including adjusting volume and screen brightness and changing the mouse pointer size, via scrollbars that appear within the results, thereby streamlining the steps to access system settings.
Phone Integration and Previews
The updates also include the ability to utilize some smartphone functions on the computer, as users can make calls, send text messages, and access certain phone functions, such as activating Do Not Disturb mode, through the search interface when connecting a supported phone to the computer using the "Phone Link" app.
The improvements also include displaying file previews within search results, along with additional information such as the last modification date, file location, and author name, as well as showing internet answers on various topics, such as weather, stocks, and general information, in addition to applications and games available in the "Microsoft Store."
Privacy and Available Versions
The company also allows filtering search results by type, including files, folders, settings, and actions, as well as the ability to rate results with thumbs up or down, and control the appearance of app suggestions and hide unwanted items.
As part of enhancing privacy, Microsoft announced a new policy via the "Intune" service, dedicated to managing corporate devices, which allows companies to keep feedback and comments sent via the "Feedback Hub" app within the corporate scope, so they do not appear in the app's public community and are not accessible to people outside it.
These changes are currently available in multiple experimental versions of Windows 11, including "Beta Build 26220.9836" and "Experimental Build 26340.9843," and the company has not yet specified a date for making them available to all users.
These steps fall under Microsoft's trend to develop the search function, transforming it from a tool for finding files and applications into an interactive interface that facilitates access to information and the execution of daily tasks.
