Milan and Inter Reveal Generali Stadium with 71,500 Capacity
AC Milan and Inter Milan unveil the new Generali stadium design, seating 71,500 spectators to replace San Siro.

Italian clubs AC Milan and Inter Milan revealed on Thursday the new architectural design for their upcoming shared stadium, which will be named "Generali Stadium," replacing the historic "San Siro" stadium, also known as "Giuseppe Meazza." The two clubs announced in a joint statement during an event held in Milan that the project was designed by "Foster + Partners" and "Manica," aiming to create a modern sports facility that keeps pace with global football developments.

The new stadium features a streamlined stand design and a double-curved roof, with an external structure featuring cross-braced supports in the shape of an "X" and stands connected at a 360-degree angle, aiming to bring fans closer to the pitch. The project also includes the redevelopment of the surrounding area covering approximately 281,000 square meters, including green spaces and recreational and commercial facilities, making it a vibrant destination year-round.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028, with the first match at the new stadium expected during the 2031-2032 season, subject to completing necessary approvals and procedures. This revelation follows an agreement between the two clubs and the Milan municipality in 2025 regarding the "San Siro" area, a step representing a long-term investment aimed at enhancing the financial resources of both clubs and improving their competitiveness locally and in Europe.

The stadium is named after the Italian insurance company "Generali," and the project cost is estimated at approximately 1.2 billion euros, according to media reports. The stadium will be eligible to host American football, rugby matches, and concerts, while the current "San Siro" stadium remains one of Italy's most prominent sports landmarks, where the two clubs have shared matches for decades.
