Minister of Justice Mohannad al-Aissa affirmed that justice is not built on revenge nor achieved through new injustice, but by upholding truth, vindicating the oppressed, and holding accountable everyone whose responsibility is proven firmly, without discrimination or exception. He stressed that the rule of law constitutes the foundation for building an equal citizenship state sought by Syrians.
For his part, Minister al-Aissa stated in a post on the 'X' platform today, Thursday, that the state's position has been clear since the victory of the Syrian Revolution and the beginning of a new era in consolidating the rule of law and preventing impunity. He clarified that this approach was reflected in the directives of President Ahmed al-Sharaa, starting from the formation of an independent investigation committee into the Coastal events, then referring the results of its work to the Ministry of Justice, which initiated judicial procedures leading to the start of public trials.
Minister al-Aissa added that the trials are conducted independently, guaranteeing the rights of defense and the requirements of a fair trial, with the judiciary relying on evidence and proofs. He pointed out that this message expresses the courage of the Syrian state in facing injustice, and confirms that affiliation with military and security institutions does not grant immunity from accountability and punishment.
Military sentences in Aleppo
The Aleppo Military Criminal Court had earlier today, Thursday, issued sentences against ten defendants accused of committing violations during the Coastal events, ranging from execution to imprisonment, while acquitting two defendants. This followed the issuance of a report by the National Commission for Investigation and Fact-Finding into the Coastal events on July 22, 2025.
Details of facts and verification
The Commission clarified in its report that remnants of the fallen regime carried out wide-scale attacks on March 6, 2025, targeting military and security headquarters, resulting in the martyrdom of 238 personnel. The Commission also recorded during the following days that violations affected civilians, explaining that investigations showed these acts were not organized, but committed by individuals and small groups with varying motives.
It noted that these acts were characterized by an individual and random nature, far from any systematic pattern. The Minister of Justice stressed that hiding behind disinformation campaigns and raising false slogans of victimhood will not prevent the judiciary from fulfilling its duty and speaking its truth, nor will it exempt anyone from bearing responsibility for their actions according to the law.
