Minister of Transport Discusses Preparations for Main Axis Rehabilitation Projects
Transport minister discusses technical and logistical preparations with Qatari partners for Damascus-Homs, Homs-Aleppo, and Saraqib-Idlib road projects.

Minister of Transport Yareb Badr held discussions with Mohammed Sultan Al-Jaber, chairman of the board of directors of the Qatari Al-Jaber Group, and Naji Barri, manager of Lobar Trading Company, regarding the necessary technical and logistical preparations for implementing the rehabilitation projects of the Damascus-Homs, Homs-Aleppo roads, as well as the Saraqib-Idlib link. These discussions took place after the contracts for these vital projects were awarded to an alliance of the two companies, paving the way for completing contractual procedures and the actual commencement of implementation work.

The Ministry of Transport stated via its Telegram channel on Friday that the meeting discussed the technical and logistical requirements of the projects, as well as implementation mechanisms and coordination between relevant authorities and the two companies. This coordination aims to ensure the provision of suitable conditions for launching works according to approved technical specifications and specified schedules, with contracts expected to be signed in the coming weeks to initiate implementation.

Minister Badr highlighted the importance of these projects in enhancing the efficiency of the road network, improving the flow of passenger and freight transport, and strengthening road safety. He affirmed that these efforts support the development of the land transport sector and keep pace with the requirements of economic activity and trade exchange movements between governorates. The meeting was attended by Muath Najjar, Director General of the General Company for Road Transport, his deputy Mohammed Daif, and Ali Esber, Director of Land Transport.

The Damascus-Homs-Aleppo axis, along with the Saraqib-Idlib link, is considered one of the vital road axes contributing to connecting the south of the country with its north. Last June, Minister of Transport Yareb Badr confirmed in a press statement that the ministry had begun working on rehabilitating central roads in Syria according to the latest equipment and internationally available technical standards, seeking to attract bids from specialized external companies to implement rehabilitation projects to the highest specifications.
