The Labor Inspection Directorate at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor conducted approximately 1,600 supervisory inspection visits across various Syrian governorates during the current year 2026, covering establishments subject to the provisions of the active Labor Law and the Law Regulating Agricultural Relations. The total value of financial fines imposed on employer violators, after studying the visit results and considering the gradation in taking legal measures, reached approximately 6 million Syrian pounds.

For his part, the Directorate's Director, Hamad Barkal, clarified that the Directorate launched an awareness inspection visit campaign in late 2025 aimed at raising legal awareness among employers and workers, with the number of these visits reaching 1,262 across all governorates. Barkal confirmed that the Directorate follows up on labor complaints submitted to the Ministry and the Directorates of Social Affairs and Labor in the governorates, which totaled 616 labor complaints during 2026.

Barkal pointed out that the Directorate is moving rapidly toward full digital transformation in inspection, aiming to protect the three production parties and ensure the accuracy and transparency of supervision. It is worth noting that the General Federation of Workers' Unions in Syria, in cooperation with the Arab Organization for Labor and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, organized a training course last January titled "Labor Inspection, Occupational Health and Safety, and Enhancing Child Protection in Syria."

The Labor Inspection Directorate at the Ministry of Social Affairs works to monitor the implementation of the provisions of Labor Law No. 17 of 2010 and the Law Regulating Agricultural Relations No. 56 of 2004, in order to ensure and respect the rights of workers and employers, and to enhance a safe and decent work environment.
