The total quantity of goods transported within and outside Syria during last October reached 2,243,588 tons, transported by 172,848 freight trucks, according to data from the Freight Transport Regulation Directorate at the Ministry of Transport.
Director of the Freight Transport Regulation Directorate, Khaled Kassaha, clarified in a statement to SANA correspondent today, Wednesday, that the quantity of goods transported within Syria reached 2,032,344 tons, while the quantity of goods transported outside Syria amounted to 611,244 tons, during the period extending from the first to the thirty-first of last October.
Kassaha indicated that the number of loaded freight trucks within Syria reached 152,473 vehicles, compared to 20,375 loaded vehicles outside Syria, noting that these figures reflect the scope of work undertaken by the Directorate in monitoring and regulating freight transport movements, both on internal roads and in transport activities linked to the outside.
He emphasized that regulating freight transport movements requires continuous monitoring of truck movements and their load weights, ensuring compliance with established regulations and helping to limit overloaded cargo that puts pressure on roads and bridges, affecting the safety of infrastructure and the efficiency of its use.
Kassaha pointed out that the Directorate recorded 60 monitoring points on roads during October and carried out supervision operations through 48 fixed and mobile scales, with the aim of monitoring truck weights and verifying that their loads comply with specified standards.
Kassaha stressed the importance of enhancing supervision on freight transport axes, considering them an essential part of regulating the shipping sector and protecting the road network from damage caused by exceeding permitted weights, as well as contributing to raising the level of traffic safety and achieving smooth transport movement.
He affirmed that regulating freight transport represents a fundamental pillar in supporting commercial activity and ensuring the smooth flow of goods between governorates, noting that the efficiency of this sector is linked to facilitating trade exchange movements and meeting market needs, as well as enhancing Syria's role in regional transport and transit movements.
The Ministry of Transport, through the Freight Transport Regulation Directorate, continues to monitor shipping movement indicators and supervise transport operations, within the framework of regulating the sector and improving the efficiency of related services.
It is worth noting that the quantities of goods transported within and outside Syria reached 25,276,666 tons during the first nine months of the current year, of which 22,771,640 tons were within the country and 2,505,026 tons were outside, according to data from the Freight Transport Regulation Directorate at the Ministry of Transport.
